Festival della Valle d’Itria: 46th edition is confirmed
The 2020 edition of the Festival della Valle d’Itria is confirmed: from the 14thJuly to the 2ndAugust, once again the summer of Martina Franca will have its key moment in the field of shows and festivals – as has been for the past 46 years.
The courtyard of the Palazzo Ducale – re-organised according to current security requirements – will see the staging of two rare works by Richard Straus: Arianna a Nasso (21, 24, 26 July, and 2 August) conducted by Fabio Luisi, in a new version in Italian of the libretto edited by Quirino Principe; and also Molière’s commedia Il borghese gentiluomo rearranged as a monologue, with music by the Munich composer and conducted by Michele Spotti. He will inaugurate the opening night on the 14 July (with repeats on the 22, 25 July and 1 August). The mise en espace for the two shows is by director Walter Pagliaro.
Soon we will share further informations about already-purchased tickets and refunds to all the buyers.

The operas of the 2020 edition
The 46th edition of the Festival will take place in Martina Franca from July 14th to August 2nd 2020.
The operatic titles that will be staged in 2020 will be: Gli amanti sposi by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, La rappresaglia by Saverio Mercadante and Leonora by Ferdinando Paër. A choice in line with the decades-long artistic project of the Festival, between rarities and rediscoveries, with the return of twentieth-century historical title never seen again in the contemporary age, and two nineteenth-century rarities. These titles will also be accompanied by Niccolò Piccinni’s interlude Il perucchiere, destined for the successful “Opera in masseria” initiative.

One of the most sophisticated
festivals in Italy.
Martina Franca has distinct connections with bel canto. An opportunity for opera-lovers, academics and critics to come together.
Here in Martina Franca, philology triumphs. And in the moonlight in the airy atrium of the Ducal Palace, music makes its presence firmly known.
Puglia is there to be explored a little more each time, thanks to the Martina Franca festival.
For me this isn’t just a festival,
it’s a party too!
